Here is why you need to be a member of National AOMCI and receive regular issues of the Antique Outboarder magazine. Flip a few pages inside and you will see a collection of volunteer Special Interest Mentors/Experts. These guys are there to help club members needs for literature, information, parts, and fellowship regarding certain motors or subjects.
Here’s what happened when John Slator recently contacted Tom Thuerwachter, the AOMCI Mercury Special Interest person and received a reply.
“Tom,
I recently got some Mk 25’s; a few are missing lower units. Over the years I have fitted lower units on them, including MK 20, Wizards, etc. I have had to enlarge the center rear stud hole in some instances. I think I had a problem with a shift seal housing one time. All in all it seems everything interchanged with little or no difficulty. Is this an accurate assumption, given they all seem to have the same basic designed lower units?
I also noticed that some side cowlings have a different skirt on the bottom and may require some modification to clear some different years. Some will work on any and some have to be trimmed (ground off).”
Tom Thuerwachter’s response to John, “That’s the way it is, happy new year!”
