2015 Keels and Wheels Concours, Seabrook, TX, May 2-3, 2015

TX AOMCI members who entered exhibiting boats to the 2015 Keels and Wheels classic concours car and boat show were:

In the manner of accolades, Robert and Donna Black and their stunning Aristocraft, powered by a 1957 Johnson Golden Javelin 35, won Best in Class of Contemporary Outboards.

DSCF2515At Tom Oncken’s suggestion, we urged Keels and Wheels Chairman Bob Fuller to contact and invite the  owner of a scale model of the USS Arizona Battleship.  This did happen and the 35 foot “Model” was quite an attraction at the show.

DSCF2526 DSCF2523DSCF2545“Kids Build a Boat” was again a hit with kids wanting to work with tools and wood.  But this year’s event organizer and TX AOMCI member John Platou also included “Kids Build a Motor”.  John, assisted by chapter member Alan Bischof, guided over 150 pairs of little hands to construct the 8′ dinghy pram and dissemble and reassemble an Evinrude 5 hp motor several times.

Girls over boys seemed to favor messing with the motor.  Some kids didn’t want to leave our work tent, content to stay with the tools and our coaches. Free tickets were issued and the lucky drawing winners were a pair of brothers who won the boat at the end of the show.  Official launch and pick-up was held at John Platou’s swimming pool, in Crosby, TX. Way to go kids!!!
