Fuel Pump Idea for a ’50s OMC to Convert a Pressure Tank Motor

Hey...I got an idea!!!

From Prof Joe McCauley:

“While reading Di Johnson’s copy of the ‘Cheap Outboards’ book at the Houston Boat Show, I noticed a  chapter on converting a dual line OMC fuel system to single line using a cheap Mikuni fuel pump. The Mikuni pumps 3.8 gal./hr., in principle enough for a 35 hp motor. However I noticed that the pump gasket for the 1974-2000 4, 7.5 and 15 fits the bypass cover for the 1960s single line OMCs. A dual line OMC up to about 18hp therefore could be converted to single line just by buying the equivalent 1960s bypass cover and a male fuel connector. the fuel connectors are expensive, about $50. Fuel pumps go for about $50 on ebay. I’m thinking of redoing my ‘Sweet 16’ (a 1947 SR with no gas tank, no cowl) by installing a Mikuni.”

Try it, take a picture send it in and let us know how it works – Joe
