Joe McCauley’s 1948 Feathercraft with 1957 Johnson 18hp

IMG_3922Here’s the 1948 10 1/2′ Feathercraft rigged from the front seat with the 1957 Johnson 18. I ran it quite a bit at Lake Houston today and really enjoyed the cruise. It runs 27 mph GPS avg with my 190 lb ib front. The cavitation plate is barely above the boat bottom, and the trim is just a hair positive beyond parallel. I adjusted the high speed jet with the boat tied to the trailer and running wide open. I’m running the aluminum fishing prop that caIMG_3923me on the motor, and am looking for a nice AJC bronze prop to rework and run. I have three motors for the boat: (i) the 1957 Johnson 18, (ii) a newly repainted and redecaled 1957 Fastwin, and (iii) a nice 1956 Mark 25. I don’t have control cables for the Mercury. The boat runs through wakes very well, just like the Vagabond/Scott 40 that we ran at Kingsland.
