The Texas Chapter was invited to participate in the 2017 Keels and Wheels Show in Seabrook, Texas on May 6th and 7th. While we could not find enough volunteers to provide a significant display of vintage outboard motors at the Lakewood Yacht Club like we did last year, three members of the Texas Chapter came through for us and participated by entering their boats into the competition. Amazingly, all three came home with a trophy!
Morten Lovstad, who attended the Keels and Wheels Show for the first time, presented his 2016 hand-built Flats Skiff powered by its new 2016 Evinrude 60hp outboard motor. Morten’s boat was awarded the “Best in Class” trophy in the “Contemporary Outboard” class. John Slator, also a new-comer to the show, presented his restored 1931 “Middy” carnival ride boat from Dreamland Margate Amusement Park in Kent, England powered by its original British engine. John was awarded the “Corinthian Award” trophy which is the same award that the Texas Chapter received last year for its outboard motor display. Way to go, John! That’s keeping the award in the family. Last, but never least, Bob Macaluso, who has participated in many Keels and Wheel events over the years, showed his 1957 Crosby Capri with its 1963 Evinrude Lark 40hp. Bob received the “Silver” award in the “Classic Outboard 16’ and Over” class. Winning never grows old, does it Bob?
Congratulations is offered to all of these gentlemen for representing the Texas Chapter so well. Thanks guys, for all of your hard work.
