Here is a little and I mean little project that I just finished for my friend John Slator. She is all of eight feet long! A 1931 model “Middy” made in England for an amusement park. The doors on the deck is where the outboard motor sits inside. It was removed by John for the restoration. The hole in the port planking was for the exhaust. When she arrived here most of it was painted which took a good while to strip and sand off. Under the paint was the old Mahogany plywood, which was a relief to see. The mid section of the deck and doors had to be recovered with Mahogany due to some patch work at some point in the past. The half round at mid point on the planking was added because of a dark stain that circled the entire boat. After some research I found that a four inch diameter rope was attached. This provided a bumper against other little girls slamming into her. This is by far the oldest thing I have ever worked on. At times it was a challenge to give it the respect that it deserved and try to keep it from looking new again. All in all it came out pretty well and John and Cindy are happy with it. Maybe she is good for another eighty five years How it survived WWII, we will never know.
